Sergei Eisenstein author collection

Eisenstein, a Latvian who lived in the USSR, was a prolific film director. But his accolades as a writer and philosopher are often overlooked. Likely most known for Soviet Montage Theory, and his strive for a "neutral image", his writing in fields of objectivity, perception and understanding also show someone keenly aware of the power of filmmaking. Was his words on artists subsidies a way to save money? Or an envisionment for a world of art without the constraints of capital.
